The 5th international suPAR symposium was held in Amsterdam 8 and 9th of May 2014. The symposium was entitled suPAR and its clinical use and focused on suPAR as a triage marker in the emergency room. The symposium was hosted by professor Marcus Schultz from the Amsterdam Medical Center. Dr. Wlazel's presentation was one of 25 lectures gicen over the 2-day Internationl suPAR symposium

Morbus Bechterew er en gigtsygdom, der også går også under betegnelsen rygsøjlegigt eller på latin spondylitis ankylopoietica. Sygdommen angriber først og fremmest ryggen og leddene mellem korsben og hofteben. Morbus Bechterew skyldes en form for betændelse, kaldet inflammation, der dog ikke forårsages af bakterier. Inflammationen fører typisk til, at leddene forkalker.

Tilbagevendende smerter og stivhed i lænd, ryg og nakke er almindeligt for patienter med Morbus Bechterew. Og er der også smerter i lyske og ben. Sygdommen begynder typisk i bækken og lænd og kan derfra brede sig til hele ryggen og nakken og i nogle tilfælde endda til brystkassen. Smerterne og stivheden er som regel værst om morgenen, men kan for det meste dulmes med medicin og fysisk aktivitet.

Sygdommen kan i sjældne tilfælde også ramme hofte-, knæ- og skulderled. Derudover får hver tredje Morbus Bechterew-patient betændelse i øjets regnbuehinde. Øjet bliver rødt og ømt, og synet sløret, ligesom lys er generende og øjet let løber i vand. Som regel er der kun betændelse i ét øje ad gangen. Det er vigtigt at gå til øjenlæge ved de første symptomer på regnbuehindebetændelse.

Morbus Bechterew påvirker kropsholdningen, idet forkalkningen i leddene fører til, at lænden mister sit naturlige svaj, så man bliver rundrygget, og brystkassen synker sammen. Når ryggen bliver stiv og krum, mister den sine fjedrende egenskaber, og dermed belastes den ekstra meget.
