Jeff Skinner is the Executive Director of the Deloitte Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. He also directs a variety of MBA entrepreneurship electives and co-curricula student activities at the School. He is visiting lecturer on Technology Transfer at University College London and at the Graduate School of Economics in Barcelona. Prior to this, as Commercial Director at University College London, he conceived, built and ran UCL’s Technology Transfer division - including the creation of two early-stage seed funds and separate units managing consultancy, collaborative research and new venture creation. Working alongside research students and academics he has co-founded over thirty technology-based spin-outs that have, in aggregate, raised over £30 million first round finance and returned over £20 million to UCL.

He is past President of and remains closely involved with the leading UK & European Tech Transfer Associations (PraxisUnico & ASTP). He teaches and consults widely throughout Europe in the field of technology commercialisation. He Chairs the Professional Recognition panel for the worldwide ‘Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals’.

Before joining UCL he was Technical Marketing Manager at Hoechst Celanese Corporation in New Jersey and prior to that, Photonics Research Manager at General Electric. His first degree was in physics. He holds a PhD in thin-film photonics from University College London and an MBA from London Business School.

BGI, the world’s largest genomics organization, opened on February 10th its first European Genome Research Center located in Copenhagen Bio Science Park (COBIS). This research center is about 1,200 square meters and equipped with 10 Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencers. The center aims to establish collaborations to better accelerate the innovation and development of genomics research and applications in health care, agriculture, bioenergy and other related areas in Europe.

BGI Chairman Huanming Yang has expressed his appreciation to the Danish government and the scientific partner in Denmark. He said, “Nothing would have been made possible by BGI without the full understanding, continuous encouragement and firm support from our supervisors, colleagues and friends in both the academic and industrial communities in Denmark since the very beginning until now. BGI’s leaders and staff have been successively educated and trained in Denmark from the past to present. It is the strong tie between BGI and Denmark both culturally and scientifically which led BGI’s choice to establish the first European Genome Research Center of BGI in Copenhagen, Denmark.”

According to Ning Li, Director of BGI Europe, the genome research center grants from the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation (HTF). Two integrated projects will be initiated in this center, one is to identify previously unknown cancer pathogens that will lead to the development and patenting of commercial vaccines and the other is to establish a unique catalogue of the millions of variations in Dane’s DNA by finishing 1% Dane’s Genome Sequencing. The genome atlas will serve as the foundation for new studies that will cast light on the hereditary causes for a number of common diseases, as well as the treatment and prevention.

Klinisk Forskningscenter - Lab

Klinisk Forskningscenter er en tværfaglig afdeling på Hvidovre hospital, som yder støte og vejledning til forskningsprojekter og forskere, samt udvikler de faglige og forskningsmæssige ressourcer på hospitalet. 
 Fra hjemmesiden:  Klinisk Forskningscenter blev etableret i 1999 med en forskningschef og en mindre stab. Staben består i 2007 af 12 fast- og 26 fondsansatte, heraf er 12 Ph.d.-studerende. Endvidere er 10 prægraduate studerende tilknyttet afdelingen.  Formålet er at fremme hospitalets overordnede mål for forskning, sikre en optimal udnyttelse af kompetencer og ressourcer samt sikre sammenhæng i indsatsen. Styrken i forskningscentret er, at problemstillinger, der afdækkes under det kliniske arbejde, kan belyses i videnskabelige projekter, der trækker på centrets og hospitalets ekspertise og ressourcer. Forskningscentret koordinerer aktiviteterne i en række afdelinger med metodologisk sammenfald i forskningsopgaverne. Forskningscentret varetager selvstændigt eller i samarbejde med andre forskningsmiljøer på hospitalet nye forsknings- og udviklingsopgver af større art.  Klinisk Forskningscenter er karakteriseret ved en omfattende sundhedsvidenskabelig forskning, dels gennem egne projekter, dels ved deltagelse i andre afdelingers projekter. Forskningsaktiviteterne spænder fra grundvidenskabelig forskning og laboratorieforskning til randomiserede klinisk kontrollerede undersøgelser og forskning i pleje og omsorg. Medarbejderstaben tæller endvidere to biostatistikere, der bl.a. tilbyder statistisk bistand til hospitalets ansatte samt til samarbejdspartnere og efter forudgående aftale til rekvireret arbejde.  Det er Klinisk Forskningscenters mål at fastholde og udbygge den videnskabelige aktivitet.  Forskningscentret har opbygget en markant forskningsmæssig profil og vil være i front indenfor kernefelterne, der bl.a. indbefatter translationel forskning indenfor cancer, virologi og inflammation.  Uddannelsesfunktionen omfatter prægraduat undervisning af lægestuderende, biologistuderende, laborantelever samt postgraduat universitetsrelateret kursus- og undervisningsaktiviteter.  Mål for Klinisk Forskningscenter  Forskningscentret skal være i front indenfor molekylærbiologisk-immunologisk og virologisk forskning. Forskningscentret skal kunne tiltrække de bedste forskere indenfor miljøet og være drivkraft for tværfaglig forskningsaktivitet. Forskningscentret skal bidrage til at styrke netværksdannelse med såvel offentlige som private institutioner Forskningscentret skal bidrage til synliggørelse af hospitalets forskningsaktivitet. Der henvises iøvrigt til hjemmesiden : ‪http://www.hvidovrehospital.dk/menu/Afdelinger/Klinisk+Forskningscenter/‬
