However,&nbsp;suPAR's predictive qualities for complications in type 1&nbsp;diabetes&nbsp;have yet to be determined. We investigated the prognostic value of&nbsp;suPAR&nbsp;for the development of cardiovascular events, decline in renal function, and mortality in patients with type 1&nbsp;diabetes.</p><p>We included 667 patients with type 1&nbsp;diabetes&nbsp;with various degrees of albuminuria in a prospective study. End points were cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, nonfatal acute myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or coronary or peripheral arterial interventions), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline ≥30%, progression from lower to higher albuminuric state, development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and mortality. Follow-up was 5.2-6.2 years. Results were adjusted for known risk factors. Hazard ratios (HRs) are presented per doubling of&nbsp;suPAR&nbsp;with 95% CI. Relative integrated discrimination improvement (rIDI) was calculated.</p><p>Quantification of&nbsp;suPAR&nbsp;was available in all participants; median (interquartile range) was 3.4 ng/mL (2.7-4.5). The University has six faculties 37,000 students and 8,500 employees (of which 5,500 researchers).<br>The Tech Transfer Office staff (12 people) are responsible for the identification, the protection and the commercialisation of Copenhagen University’s research results. The Office receives around 60 invention disclosures per year, it entered 21 licensing agreements in 2011 on behalf of the University and the office also assists academic staff with a considerable amount of research collaboration agreements. The Office’s newest initiative is the project, “Copenhagen Spin-outs”, a collaboration between three TTOs and central stake holders who will work together to create more biotech spin-outs from academia. The Prize will be presented by Her Majesty the Queen.<br /> Bios: Christine Petit, Professor at College de France, holding the Chair of Genetics and Cellular Physiology, head of the Genetics and Physiology of Hearing laboratory at the Institut Pasteur in Paris also affiliated to INSERM, is a geneticist and a neurobiologist. She conceived and pioneered the genetic strategy to assess the molecular mechanisms underlying the cochlear differentiation and physiology. She developed this genetic approach in humans, by succeeding to overcome the difficulties specific to linkage analysis for deafness. She thereby mapped to human chromosomes the first two genes responsible for hereditary congenital deafness. She identified the causative genes for about 20 inherited forms of deafness, initially by an innovative candidate gene approach. Together with her colleagues, she also unraveled the roles of most of the proteins encoded by these genes, namely in the sensory hair cells, their stimulating gel, and the supporting cells, by multidisciplinary studies of engineered mouse models. Her work shed light on the functions mediated through various fibrous links within the hair bundle, the mechanoreceptive structure to sound. Her work on Usher syndrome (deafness, blindness), demonstrated that all Usher 1 proteins as well as all Usher 2 proteins form protein networks enabling the links they form to shape the hair bundle. She also identified some Usher1 proteins as components of the mechanotransduction machinery. Christine Petit’s discoveries have already had a significant impact on medical practice, with respect to diagnosis, genetic counseling and therapeutic decisions by indicating the potential benefit of cochlear implants and hearing aids for patients.<br /> Karen Steel, Professor and Principal Investigator for the Genetics of Deafness and founder of the Mouse Genetics Programme at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK, has pioneered the use of mouse models, starting with her painstaking description of the characteristics of mutant mice with disorders of balance and hearing. Her early work on cochlear function and hair cell degeneration in the mutant deafness mouse led to identification of the gene called Tmc1, the human homologue of which is mutated in several forms of hereditary deafness. She and her colleagues went on to identify causative genes in nearly 30 forms of hearing disorder in mice, most of which have been linked to human conditions. In particular, she described the genes for myosin-7a and cadherin-23, which are key components in the transduction mechanism in hair cells, and mutations of which underlie forms of Usher Syndrome. Karen Steel is internationally recognized for her generous and altruistic approach to science. In this study we sequentially analyzed suPAR serum concentrations within the first week of intensive care in a large cohort of well characterized intensive care unit (ICU) patients, in order to investigate potential regulatory mechanisms and evaluate the prognostic significance in critically ill patients.</p> <p>METHODS: A total of 273 patients (197 with sepsis, 76 without sepsis) were studied prospectively upon admission to the medical intensive care unit (ICU), on Day 3 and Day 7, and compared to 43 healthy controls. Clinical data, various laboratory parameters as well as investigational inflammatory cytokine profiles were assessed. Patients were followed for approximately one year.</p> <p>RESULTS: Upon admission to the ICU suPAR serum concentrations were elevated in critically ill patients as compared with healthy controls. In sepsis patients suPAR levels were higher than in non-sepsis patients (with or without systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS)). During the first week after admission to the ICU serum suPAR concentrations remained stably elevated. suPAR serum concentrations measured upon admission were closely and independently correlated to various laboratory parameters, specifically biomarkers of inflammation (tumor necrosis factor (TNF), C-reactive protein (CRP)), hepatic and renal dysfunction. High suPAR levels at admission and at Day 3 were a strong independent predictor for both ICU and long-term mortality in critically ill patients.</p> <p>CONCLUSIONS: In sepsis and non-sepsis patients suPAR serum concentrations are increased upon admission to the ICU, likely reflecting the activation state of the immune system, and remain stably elevated in the initial course of treatment. Low suPAR levels are a positive predictor of ICU- and overall survival in critically ill patients, including sepsis and non-sepsis patients. Nevertheless, suPAR remains associated with disease endpoints after the adjustment of other inflammatory markers and is less related to metabolic variables than CRP. Cancer was diagnosed according to international classification of diseases (ICD) 8 and ICD-10 codes and suPAR levels were measured using a commercially available ELISA. The association of suPAR levels with incident cancer during follow-up was analyzed using Cox regression, adjusted for established risk factors and the inflammatory markers C-reactive protein (CRP) and leukocyte numbers.</p> <p>RESULTS:<br /> suPAR levels ranged from 0.6 to 22 ng/mL and median suPAR level was 4.01 ng/mL. An increase of 1 ng/mL in baseline suPAR was associated with adjusted HR of 1.61 (95% CI: 1.23-2.11, P &lt; 0.001), 0.92 (95% CI: 0.69-1.24, P = 0.59), and 1.33 (95% CI: 1.13-1.58, P &lt; 0.001) of being diagnosed with respiratory, gastrointestinal, and other cancer types, respectively.</p> <p>CONCLUSION:<br /> Elevated suPAR levels were associated with increased risk of incident respiratory cancer and other types of cancer, but not gastrointestinal cancers, independently of established risk factors, CRP, and leukocyte numbers.</p> <p>IMPACT:<br /> These findings suggest that inflammation is involved in cancer development. Risk algorithms based on established risk factors and risk-associated biomarkers should be developed and evaluated in large, general population-based studies. Det betyder smerter og stivhed i ryggen.<br /> Årsagen til Morbus Bechterew kender vi ikke endnu. Men sygdommen er ikke smitsom, og den skyldes for eksempel ikke skader efter ulykker eller overbelastning.<br /> Symptomerne begynder typisk at vise sig i 20-30 års alderen. Nogle har dog haft tilbageven-dende rygsmerter helt fra teenageårene. Smerter lindres ved bevægelse - derfor ofte natlige spadsereture og følgende træthed hos patienterne.</p> <p>Sygdommen opstår på grund af en såkaldt reumatisk inflammation - en form for betændelse uden bakterier. Betændelsen angriber for det meste de steder, hvor sener, ledbånd og led-kapsler hæfter på knoglerne. Men også ledhinden, en slags slimhinde inde i leddene, kan blive ramt.<br /> Der hvor diskus hæfter i kanten af ryghvirvlerne opstår der ofte betændelse - vævet nedbry-des - arvæv dannes og forkalker, således at der vokser en "krave" af knoglevæv ud fra kanten af hvirvlen, der ofte til sidst når nabohvirvlen. Det begrænser ryggens bevægelighed, hvilket i sig selv kan medføre forkalkning. En ond cirkel er startet.</p> <p>Jon Erlendsson har meget lidt bevægelighed i ryggen</p> <p>Diagnose:<br /> Sygdommen har hidtil været svær at diagnostisere.<br /> Der går ofte ret lang tid, før man kan stille diagnosen Morbus Bechterew, og det er der flere grunde til.</p> <p>For det første begynder sygdommen som regel gradvist og er ofte afbrudt af gode perioder uden eller med kun få gener. For det andet findes der ikke nogen enkelt prøve, som man kan bruge til at afgøre, om en person har sygdommen, og blandt de mange, der har rygsmerter, er der kun få, der har Morbus Bechterew.<br /> Nu giver MR scanninger håb for tidligere diagnose og dermed bedre behandling.<br /> Årsagen til sygdommen er endnu ukendt.<br /> Mellem 5 og 10.000 danskere lider af Morbus Bechterew,. Sygdommen er 2-3 gange hyppige-re blandt mænd.<br /> Behandling:<br /> Hidtil har fysiske øvelser og NSAID-præp. der primært lindrer smerterne været behandlingen,.<br /> Med en spæd start år 2000 er man begyndt at bruge det biologiske lægemiddel TNF-alfa-hæmmere, der bremser betændelsesprocessen, lindrer smerterne og dermed er med til at sik-re knapt så trætte patienter.<br /> Betændelsen mindskes som nævnt, men de afledte effekter over tid og bivirkninger kendes endnu ikke.</p> <p>Kilde: Gigtforeningen for Morbus Bechterew</p> <p>http://www.dr.dk/DR1/laegen/Programmer/2006/060216/20060216110856.htm<br /> <br /> <br /> Morbus Bechterew er en speciel gigtlidelse, der kommer snigende tidligt i livet og rammer ryggen hos flere mænd end kvinder. Ny medicin og motion holder dog de fleste patienter i sving</p> <p>– Nej, det hører til sjældenhederne, at folk dør af Morbus Bechterew, så det er en sygdom, man må lære at leve med, siger overlæge Jon Erlendsson. Og han ved noget om sygdommen, for ikke alene har han virket som reumatolog ved Horsens Sygehus i mange år; han har også selv lidt af denne specielle, inflammatoriske gigtlidelse i over 40 år.</p> <p>Den nu pensionerede overlæge er også virksom i Gigtforeningen for Morbus Bechterew, der omfatter cirka 1.100 medlemmer, men det antal dækker ikke alle danskere, der har lidelsen.</p> <p>– Hvor mange, der har Morbus Bechterew, er et godt spørgsmål, for dels er sygdommen ikke nem at diagnosticere og opfattes først som almindelig ondt i ryggen, så en del går nok rundt uden diagnose. Og dels går der lang tid, inden diagnosen stilles, forklarer Jon Erlendsson. Han anslår dog, at mellem en og to promille af befolkningen er ramt af sygdommen.</p> <p>Tidlig debut<br /> Karakteristisk for Morbus Bechterew er, at den dukker op tidligt i livet, det vil sige i alderen mellem 20 og 30 år, men hos nogle allerede i teenage-alderen. Og sygdommen rammer to-tre gange så mange mænd som kvinder.</p> <p>– Men det tal er også usikkert, vurderer Jon Erlendsson og fortæller, hvordan han selv allerede i sin gymnasietid mærkede de første symptomer.</p> <p>– Jeg følte strålende smerter ud i det ene ben. Men så kunne der gå flere måneder, hvor intet var galt. Og så er det jo ikke nemt for en læge at finde ud af, hvad der er i vejen, når der ikke optræder symptomer, siger han og fortæller, at hans symptomer efter flere år lige så stille tog til og efterhånden også omfattede morgenstivhed i ryggen og smerter i lænden.<br /> Ikke desto mindre lykkedes det Jon Erlendsson at uddanne sig til pilot i forsvaret og flyve i seks år, inden han skiftede karriere og gav sig i kast med medicinstudiet.</p> <p>– Og der var jo lange, gode perioder, hvor jeg ikke havde symptomer, husker han og påpeger, at de strålende smerter ud i benene indfandt sig skiftevis i det ene og det andet ben.</p> <p>– Og det er helt typisk for Morbus Bechterew i modsætning til en mekanisk ryglidelse som for eksempel en diskusprolaps, siger han og tilføjer, at rygsmerter ved Morbus Bechterew aftager ved bevægelse, hvorfor patienter ofte må op midt om natten for at lindre sig ved at vandre lidt rundt. Den lindring vil andre rygpatienter ikke opleve.</p> <p>Betændelse<br /> Morbus Bechterew kaldes også rygsøjlegigt eller spondylitis ankylopoietica og skyldes betændelse med efterfølgende ardannelse og forkalkning i leddene mellem korsbenet og hoftebenene.</p> <p>Sygdommen er i nogen grad arvelig og opstår helt typisk i bækkenets korsbåndsled og kan brede sig til rygsøjlen med nedsat bevægelighed af rygsøjlens led til følge. Med tiden vil ryggens svaj forsvinde, og ryggen krummes forover.</p> <p>Hos 20-30 procent af patienterne fører sygdommen også til gigt i armenes og benenes led, der hæver og smerter, og et lignende antal patienter oplever tilmed betændelse i øjnenes regnbuehinde.</p> <p>– Sygdommen skyldes altså betændelse i leddene, men årsagen til betændelsestilstanden kender man ikke, siger Jon Erlendsson, som tilføjer, at der blandt forskere hersker velbegrundet mistanke om, at sygdommen skyldes en overreaktion i patienternes immunforsvar. Men præcis imod hvad, ved man ikke.</p> <p>Morbus Bechterew er dermed i familie med andre autoimmunlidelser som for eksempel psoriasis og Morbus Crohn samt Colitis Ulcerosa.</p> <p>Vanskelig diagnose<br /> Et betydeligt problem ved Morbus Bechterew er dens snigende karakter, hvor den tilmed i lange perioder kan ligge latent uden nævneværdige symptomer.</p> <p>– Og sygdommen findes i alle grader, men fælles er, at der går lang tid, tit omkring syv år fra de første tegn viser sig, indtil diagnosen bliver stillet, siger Jon Erlendsson. Han tilføjer, at det forløb både betyder, at patienterne typisk går længe i usikkerhed om, hvad der er galt med dem, hvilket i sig selv er en belastning og et problem, idet betændelsesudbrud også medfører træthed. Et andet problem er, at den sene diagnose forhindrer en tidlig behandling.</p> <p>– Diagnosen er vanskelig, da sygdommen ikke kan konstateres ved blodprøver, men ved røntgenundersøgelse af bækkenets knogler. Og patienten skal typisk langt ind i sygdomsforløbet, inden man kan se forandringer i knoglevævet på røntgenbilleder. Derfor er det også et stort fremskridt, at man nu kan benytte MR-scanninger, hvor man tidligt kan konstatere væskeophobninger ved leddene. En sikker diagnose kræver dog stadig røntgenkonstatering af knogleforandringer, men der arbejdes på, at MR-scanninger kan anerkendes som diagnoseform, siger Jon Erlendsson. Han tilføjer, at patienter skal have oplevet mindst tre måneders konstante smerter i lænden, før man har så megen mistanke om Morbus Bechterew, så man går i gang med undersøgelser, der kan føre til, at diagnosen stilles.</p> <p>Hidtidig medicinsk behandling<br /> Behandlingen af Morbus Bechterew relaterer sig til udbruddets form og sværhed.</p> <p>– Patienter med basislidelsen i bækkenet og rygsøjle vil få NSAID-præparater, altså nonsteroide antiinflammatoriske stoffer plus eventuelt noget smertestillende, oplyser overlægen.</p> <p>– Den tredjedel af patienterne, hvor også perifere led i arme og ben er angrebet, vil yderligere få sulfasalazin. Og deres ledhævelser kan behandles lokalt med injektion af binyrebarkhormon. Endelig får omkring 20 procent af patienterne regnbuehindebetændelse, som behandles med binyrebarkhormon som øjendråber eller salve, ofte suppleret med et stof, der udvider pupillerne, forklarer han.</p> <p>Jon Erlendsson tilføjer, at der her er tale om den hidtidige standardbehandling, men at nogle Bechterew-patienter i de seneste år har haft afgørende god effekt af en ny medicinform, TNF-alfahæmmere.</p> <p>Ny og dyr behandling<br /> – Den medicin afprøves stadig og ser ud til at have en særdeles god effekt på mellem en tredjedel og halvdelen af patienterne, der virkelig blomstrer op; nogle fra den ene dag til den anden. Men dels kender vi ikke langtidsvirkningerne af behandlingen, og dels er den dyr, så vi indhøster her erfaringer med patienter, der ikke har et godt behandlingsalternativ og kan så vurdere effekten i forhold til at udbrede brugen af TNF-alfahæmmere i fremtiden, forklarer overlægen, som understreger, at Morbus Bechterew er en kronisk sygdom, der kræver kronisk behandling.</p> <p>– Med de anførte forbehold betragter vi klart de nye TNF-alfahæmmere som en revolution i behandlingen af Bechterew-patienter, idet det er første gang, vi har en medicin, der på afgørende vis dæmper gigtbetændelsen. Vi har også håb om, at den vil kunne reducere forkalkningen, men det er endnu ikke klarlagt, siger Jon Erlendsson.</p> <p>Motion og liv<br /> Tidlig diagnose og behandling er afgørende for at holde Morbus Bechterew stangen, men i det daglige er motion en vigtig indsats for den enkelte patients velbefindende, lyder det fra Gigtforeningen for Morbus Bechterew.</p> <p>Patienter får tilbudt motionsprogrammer udformet af fysioterapeuter og kan komme på motionskurser på gigthospitaler, hvor de lærer at holde rygsøjlens led i bevægelse.</p> <p>– Motion er under alle omstændigheder en god ting, da det øger muskelstyrken og lindrer, men om den forebygger i sig selv er nok et spørgsmål, mener Jon Erlendsson, der fortæller, at han også selv har et motionsprogram, som han gennem mange år har fulgt.</p> <p>– Men i dag er min rygsøjle helt forkalket, så nu holder jeg mig i gang med gåture, siger den 64-årige overlæge, hvis brystkasse også er blevet stiv som følge af sygdommen, hvorfor han også oplever nedsat lungefunktion.</p> <p>– Så patienter med Morbus Bechterew har yderligere et godt argument for at lade være med at ryge, påpeger han og tilføjer, at en alvorlig sideeffekt af sygdommen er risiko for brud på rygsøjlen, idet osteoporose er en tidlig følgesvend til Morbus Bechterew.</p> <p>– Men man kan altså leve med sygdommen, og man behøver bestemt ikke at blive invalid, siger han, hvad han også selv er et godt eksempel på.<br /> <br /> – 70 procent af patienterne med Morbus Bechterew er i arbejde 20 år efter sygdommens udbrud, og med bedre diagnosemuligheder og ny medicin kan den statistik sikkert blive afgørende bedre, vurderer Jon Erlendsson, som har et godt liv på trods af, at sygdommen har hindret ham i at tage belastende vagter på arbejde og også de senere år har forhindret ham i for eksempel at tage en cykeltur eller løbe på ski.</p> <p>– Og der er også rejser, jeg ikke kommer på. Så sygdommen har besværliggjort mit liv, men bestemt ikke spoleret det, siger han.<br /> Fakta<br /> Gammel sygdom<br /> Morbus Bechterew er opkaldt efter den russiske pionér inden for psykologi og neurologi Valdimir Mikhailovitch von Bechterew, der levede fra 1857 til 1927 og blev professor i Skt. Petersborg i 1893. Den daværende sammenlægning af hospitalerne betød, at flere specialafdelinger blev flyttet rundt imellem de i alt seks hospitaler. I forbindelse med at nogle afdelinger blev flyttet fra Hvidovre Hospital, blev der plads til at nye initiativer kunne opstå. 

Klinisk Forskningscenter er således resultatet af en ny måde at samle kompetencer og organisere forskning på. Forskningscentret var den første tværfaglige forskningsafdeling indenfor Hospitalsvæsnet i Danmark, og har til formål at bidrage med at identificere og samle ny viden og ekspertise indenfor de mange forskningsområder der findes på Hvidovre Hospital.

Klinisk Forskningscenter er en afdeling i vækst, der siden 1998 er vokset fra at være en forskningschef med en lille stab til i dag at have 48 medarbejdere.

Since then, suPAR has been broadly applied to a range of diseases and the same picture is emerging. An elevated suPAR is associated with a negative prognosis independent of disease. Even among the general population, an elevated suPAR has recently been shown to be associated with increased risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and Type 2 Diabetes.</p> <p>But what does an elevated suPAR reflect? The suPAR level is positively correlated with markers of inflammation and immune activation such as CRP (hsCRP), TNF-a and white blood cell counts. Thus, suPAR may be a novel marker of inflammation, and increased inflammation has in recent years been suggested as a disease driving mechanism. Nevertheless, suPAR remains associated with disease endpoints after the adjustment of other inflammatory markers and is less related to metabolic variables than CRP. • Danmarks Psoriasis Forening</p> <p>Hvorfor arbejder vi sammen?<br /> De Autoimmune repræsenterer alle patienter med IMID sygdomme (Immune Mediated Inflammatory Disease), på dansk også inflammatorisk autoimmune sygdomme. IMID henviser til en stor gruppe sygdomme, der omfatter bl.a. Morbus Crohn, leddegigt, børneleddegigt, psoriasis, psoriasisgigt og Morbus Bechterew. Disse sygdomme har det tilfælles, at der kan påvises en ubalance i kroppens immunforsvar. Sygdommene kan ikke helbredes, men følger dig livet igennem.<br /> I Danmark er ca. 250.000 mennesker ramt af én af disse sygdomme.</p> <p>Foreningerne under De Autoimmune har nogle fælles udfordringer:<br /> • Vi arbejder alle for at forbedre forholdene generelt for mennesker med en IMID sygdom
• Vi arbejder for at sikre at IMID sygdommene er på den politiske agenda
• Vi arbejder for at nedbryde fordomme og fremme omverdens forståelse for sygdommenes konsekvens
• Vi arbejder for bedre information og synliggørelse
• Vi kæmper for at sikre optimale behandlingstilbud til den enkelte<br /> Hver for sig er vi ikke store foreninger, men sammen repræsenterer vi en stor gruppe mennesker. Det giver os mere synlighed og taletid at være sammen, end udelukkende at stå hver for sig.</p> <p>Hvad har De Autoimmune til fælles?<br /> Der er mange ligheder mellem IMID sygdommene, selvom de angriber meget forskellige organer i kroppen. Forskning i IMID sygdommene tyder på, at de deler samme forstyrrelse i reguleringen af immunforsvaret. En anden vigtig lighed ved sygdommene er, at nogle har ”overlappende” symptomer.<br /> Nyere forskning viser, at vi indenfor de nævnte sygdomme kan blive ramt af flere af sygdommene. Det gælder f.eks. ved Crohns sygdom, hvor 1 ud af 5 patienter har symptomer fra andre organer end tarmen. Det er f.eks. typisk sygdomsforandringer i øjne (regnbuehindebetændelse) eller hævede eller smertende led. Omvendt har en del patienter med rygsøjlegigt symptomer fra tarmen, der meget ligner Crohns sygdom.<br /> De fleste af sygdommen er endvidere arveligt betingede, uden at man har kunnet finde ét bestemt gen, der er ansvarligt for en eller flere af sygdommene. Arveligheden ved sygdommene ses ved, at slægtninge i første led (børn, forældre, søskende) har en op til 20 gange øget risiko for at få en IMID sygdom, hvis man selv har den.<br /> Der forskes i hele verden meget i de forskellige IMID sygdomme og deres indbyrdes sammenhænge. Alle, der ønsker det, kan blive medlem.</p> <p>Handicap: Psoriasis er en arvelig hudsygdom, der blandt andet fremtræder som psoriasiseksem og psoriasisgigt. Der skønnes at være 150.000 mennesker i Danmark, der har denne lidelse.</p> <p>Struktur: Landsforening med 15 lokalafdelinger, som stort set følger de tidligere amtsgrænser. Faste udvalg: Medieudvalg, Klimabehandlingsudvalg, PsoUngUdvalg samt Kursusudvalg.</p> <p>Aktiviteter: Medlemsmøder og kurser, oplysning, rådgivning og støtte til forskning. Sygdommen angriber først og fremmest ryggen og leddene mellem korsben og hofteben. Morbus Bechterew skyldes en form for betændelse, kaldet inflammation, der dog ikke forårsages af bakterier. Inflammationen fører typisk til, at leddene forkalker.<br />  <br /> Tilbagevendende smerter og stivhed i lænd, ryg og nakke er almindeligt for patienter med Morbus Bechterew. Og er der også smerter i lyske og ben. Sygdommen begynder typisk i bækken og lænd og kan derfra brede sig til hele ryggen og nakken og i nogle tilfælde endda til brystkassen. Smerterne og stivheden er som regel værst om morgenen, men kan for det meste dulmes med medicin og fysisk aktivitet.<br />  <br /> Sygdommen kan i sjældne tilfælde også ramme hofte-, knæ- og skulderled. Derudover får hver tredje Morbus Bechterew-patient betændelse i øjets regnbuehinde. Øjet bliver rødt og ømt, og synet sløret, ligesom lys er generende og øjet let løber i vand. Som regel er der kun betændelse i ét øje ad gangen. Det er vigtigt at gå til øjenlæge ved de første symptomer på regnbuehindebetændelse.<br />  <br /> Morbus Bechterew påvirker kropsholdningen, idet forkalkningen i leddene fører til, at lænden mister sit naturlige svaj, så man bliver rundrygget, og brystkassen synker sammen. • at søge Colitis-Crohn ramtes forhold forbedret i alle henseender. Dette gælder også for andre relaterede tarmsygdomme
• at udbrede kendskabet til sygdommene og derved skabe forståelse for Colitis-Crohn ramtes kår, samt kårene for andre relaterede tarmsygdomsramte
• at støtte en landsdækkende opbygning af foreningens virke
